The Blessing Behind Doing The Right Thing

Homeless man who returned ring gets over $175K in donations

When Kansas City homeless man Billy Ray Harris returned Sarah Darling’s engagement ring last month after she accidentally dropped it in his cup, it could have been the end of the story.
Instead, the experience has changed his life.
In the weeks since his good deed went viral, Harris has gained national attention, and supporters have raised over $175,000 for him to find a new home.
Something even more valuable happened: Harris is back in touch with his family, from whom he was estranged for the last 16 years.

When you ask a people today what they would do if in the same position as Billy Ray Harris, most would say that they would keep the ring, pawn it, and spend the money. We can learn so much from Mr. Harris. Here is a homeless man who had an opportunity to keep this ring and start his life over again in one second. This is not just about a ring being returned but a lesson in integrity and character. I believe that we all will be faced with an opportunity that will show if we have these two important qualities. You see integrity and character not only will get you to where you're going but keeps and protects you while you're there. Now I don't know the value of the ring but at the end of the day, Mr. Harris got so much more at the end. He was able to get a home and be reunited with his family that he hadn't seen in 16 years.

In conclusion, this is an example of how there is a greater blessing in doing the right thing. You can sneak and cheat your way through life, getting what you want but in doing so, you miss the abundance that is available to by doing what is right.
